Most treatment that I see is behavior modification which is good. However I believe that the success rate is around 30%. There is very little or no attention paid to body chemistry imbalance which is often associated and not treated. Most alcoholics are posterior pituitary gland deficient which causes a craving for alcohol, sugar and they drink large quantities of liquids. They may also be bipolar which is often not diagnosed so they self medicate with alcohol and drugs. In the treatment centers they check urine frequently. They should also check urine specific gravity which will usually be below 1.018 because ADH hormone is low due to posterior pituitary gland deficiency. This is a definite marker for bipolar and should be treated. R.F.

As I continue to search for ways that can help me find ways to give me relief in overcoming the alcohol addiction of my hubby this information came as a surprise to me. I bet there wont be many people who knows these aspects of the problem so the best thing for families who have a member as an alcohol addict should take note of this. Do we need to tell the attending physician about these methods or do they know how to combat this, tell me so that I can proceed accordingly.
