I'm Cara. For various reasons mental health, particularly regarding self-harm and depression have always interested me. I'm in college and for my English coursework I'm looking at whether depression and self-harm are accurately represented by musicians. I'm collecting data at the minute and I have several songs by Nellie McKay, Jack Off Jill, Regina Spektor and The Dresden Dolls, and I have also collected some LJ entires regrding these issues. I'm going to compare them, for example in When I Am Queen by Jack Off Jill Jessicka sings "I'll play the part of someone else", and then I'll quote a section of an LJ entry that expresses the person's wish to be somebody else, and also perhaps sees life and their problems as being not real, or something like a game that can be played. Therefore I would be extremely grateful if you all gave me permission to use your posts as data to be compared with the songs I find. No one will know who you are or anything, I'll just refer to the poster as F1/M1 for female or male 1, and I will have to provide the web address and date it was posted purely for my bibliography to prove I haven't just typed things to fit with my chosen song lyrics. I won't use anything by anybody that hasn't posted to say I can use their posts.
